Windows 10 provides its users with a high level of personalization. One of these features is the ability to change the colors they see on various elements including the taskbar, Action Center, and Start button. The following article will show users not only how they can customize their color schemes, but some of the effects that may be changed as well.

Selecting a color scheme

  1. Press the Windows key, then type Settings and press Enter.
  2. On the left-hand side of the screen, under personalization, ensure that the Colors tab is selected.
  3.  Choose a color from the palette in the center of the screen under the Windows colors section.

Tip: Check the box Automatically pick an accent color from my background to have Windows set a scheme for you.

More options

In the section below the color palette, there are additional options. We'll explain each of them below the image.
  1. Transparency effects - This toggle button allows the user to turn on a "see through" effect for the taskbar, Action Center, and Start menu.
  2. Show accent color on the following surfaces - These two checkboxes add the user's preferred color (chosen from the palette shown above) to the areas listed.
  3. Choose your default app mode - This option changes the background color of Windows menus to either black or white.
